Lead hands on design and development of strategic tax planning software product for Fortune 500 customers.  Oversaw architectural and design decisions.   Managed agile development processes.   

Architected and created a multi-dimensional tax data warehouse product 

Lead development effort to create a tax data warehouse application that was the foundation of the company’s strategic effort.  Architected the product in such a way as to allow near instantaneous calculation results.  Designed a de-normalized data model based on a star schema.  Implemented temporal database to handle versioning requirements.  Integrated DHTMLxGrid to display and edit structured account data.  Incorporated a number of open source technologies to speed the effort.   

Profiled and resolved performance issues 

Profiled and resolved performance bottlenecks to achieve major gains in calc time thereby bringing hours down to minutes.  Employed various strategies including caching and optimizing the calculation algorithm. 

Developed core calculation framework 

Implemented calculation engine for modeling and computing tax liability for over 1000 entities with different tax laws treatments in each state.  Challenges included accuracy, ease of maintenance, and dirty marking. 

Managed relationships across the organization and with offshore team 

Worked closely with Product Management to design product features, analyze tradeoffs, and craft releases.  Interfaced with Professional Services to improve usability and resolve issues.  Managed outsourcing relationship and integration with optimizer team in Switzerland.  Mentored junior developers

Developed enterprise web application for sourcing 

Implemented full feature development from DB back-end to UI front-end. Developed MVC web application framework employing JavaBeans and JSP. Designed role-based portal to enhance usability.

Designed and developed integration components 

Integrated catalog engine, reporting engine, payment processing, and contract management systems. Interfaced via HTTP request and XML response and integrated user experience using single sign-on.   

Provided infrastructure support – source control and builds 

Handled customer customizations and upgrades. Administered source control system (Clearcase) by managing multiple development streams.  Managed build process and coordinated service pack releases.   

Implemented auction software for customers using Servlets/JSP 

Developed various customer implementations.  Designed integration with financial services client’s existing infrastructure.  Provided support and on-site consulting for WebMethods XML integration project.  Developed and delivered technical software training for customers and partners.
